Turkey has called its Ambassador to France back.

The Lower Chamber of the French Senate today adopted the draft law criminalizing denial of the Armenian Genocide.

Alongside that, the Turkish community in France held a protest in front of the Senate with the demand to not adopt the draft law, and the official Ankara threatened to call its Ambassador back, if the draft law was adopted. Turkey has also threatened to cut off trade relations with France.

We remind that after the debates in the Senate's committees, the Senate established the formulation "penalty for the denial of genocides recognized by the law". From now on, denial of genocide envisages a year of imprisonment and a 45,000 Euro fine. France recognized the Holocaust in 1990 and the Armenian Genocide in 2001.
