Syunik Governor called for questioning over encounter
Governor of Syunik Marz (province) Surik Khachatryan has not returned businesswoman Silva Hambarzumyan the 102 million drams ($267,000) worth of equipment which he allegedly stole from Hambarzumyan's gold mining company
According to our verified sources, on Thursday Surik Khachatryan will bear testimony at the Special Investigation Service, which will decide the fate of the criminal case.
Earlier in November, Silva Hambarzumyan publicly alleged that the Syunik governor had stolen expensive piece of equipment from her Lichvaz-Tey gold mining company. The governor's attack on the businesswoman is believed to have been in response to those comments. On November 14, Surik Khachatryan slapped Hambardzumyan inside the Marriott hotel in Yerevan because of comments she had made about him.
