Destruction of yards in Yerevan continues
Owners and residents of apartments at the Nalbandyan-Sayat Nova intersection have sounded the alarm about illegal construction in their yard. Photos showing the construction and the elimination of green areas in the yard have been posted on Facebook.
User Liana Danielyan says another tall building is being built in place of the former kindergarten. The 100-year old grape trees and the nearby green areas have been destroyed.
Construction has temporarily stopped by the residents' demand, but according to a message posted on the Internet, construction restarted at 7:30 this morning. The residents assure that another tree was cut down today as well.
The residents have appealed to the RA Minister of Emergency Situations and have already received a response stating that the seismic stability of the homes at that address was distorted after the 1988 earthquakae and that the homes needed to be fortified.
As far as the construction is concerned, the minister advised appealing to the Ministry of Urbanization and the mayor of Yerevan and mentioned that the issue was not in his competence.
