Putin offiically registered as candidate

The Central Electoral Commission of Russia today registered Vladimir Putin as a presidential candidate.

Putin was nominated for the country's highest office by "United Russia"Party, which unanimously nominated the leader of the party to run in the presidential elections to be held on March 4, 2012.

Other presidential candidates have submitted documents to the Russian CEC today as well. The first to register was candidate of the radical opposition of Russia Sergey Mironov, followed by leader of the Liberal Democratic Party Vladimir Zhirinovsky, leader of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Genadi Zyuganov and one of the co-founders of "Yabloko" Party Grigory Yavlinsky.

In addition to partisan candidates, several independent nominees have also planned on participating in the Russian presidential elections, and the one that drew the public's attention was billionnaire Mikhail Prokhorov.
