The 13th youth union congress of the Armenian National Movement (HHSh) adopted a statement concerning the jailed HHSh activist Tigran Arakelyan.

"The August 9 standoff between the activists of the Armenian National Congress (ANC) and police ended with the unlawful arrest of seven ANC activists. Six of them were later released, with Tigran Arakelyan remaining in custody. His arrest was used by the authorities to pressurize the ANC during the talks with the government, thereby finally confirming that Arakelyan was a political prisoner," reads the statement.

The HHSh youth union condemns the authorities' actions and declares its determination to struggle for the release of its jailed activist.

During the congress the HHSh youth union elected a new executive committee which is comprised of seven members: political prisoner Tigran Arakelyan, Babken Urutyan, Avetik Abgaryan, Sargis Gevorgyan, Kristine Sargsyan, Eva Tovmasyan and Arshak Musahanyan.
