Still people “creating cases”
Armenia can't release the lists of people who had collaborated with the National Security Service during the Soviet era. This is what Minister of Justice Hrair Tovmasyan claimed during a briefing that followed the Armenian government's session today.
"The adoption of such a law will cause a problem because those people will start thinking about themselves and their inheritors," the minister said.
The government today gave a negative conclusion to the draft law "On Release" presented by a legislative initiative by deputies of the National Assembly. One of the reasons was because Armenia is the successor of Soviet Armenia.
"Such laws have been adopted by countries that thought they were seized by the Soviet Union. If there is no political approach, the rest will lead to anti-constitutionalism," the minister told "A1+".
Out of the former Soviet republics, only the Near Baltic countries and Georgia declared that they had been seized by the USSR and released their lists. Minister Tovmasyan assures that Armenia's step will be anti-constitutional.
According to the minister, this legislative initiative is not preferable because there are still people who are working with the National Security Service and are helping reveal numerous spies or traitors of the nation.
