The first says the third is active
"There will be no protection of human rights without an active society," first Ombudsman of Armenia, "Heritage" faction MP Larisa Alaverdyan said today.
On a scale of one to five, Alaverdyan rated the protection of human rights in Armenia with 3.
According to her, the Armenian authorities have no desire to cede whatsoever and view the Ombudsman's Office as a structure with influence.
She called on the society to add pressure and suggested that the media send complaints about violations of rights by calling the Ombudsman's Office hotline. "If we don't do that, we will contribute to the slow development of that institute," she said.
Even though Alaverdyan didn't wish to assess the activities of the current and former Ombudsmen, she did say Karen Andreasyan was active. She compared the legislative powers of today's Ombudsman's Office with the previous powers and rated them as more stable, but far from being satisfactory.
