According to the Armenian police, on the eve an argument broke out between the citizens of Sevan city, Razmik Meloyan and Ara Smbatyan, in the restaurant complex "Orsetto" near the public beach on the shore of Lake Sevan.

According to our sources, the incident was politically motivated: nonpartisan Ara Smbatyan is going to run for mayor during the October 2012 municipal elections, while Razmik Meloyan, who has recently arrived from Moscow and has been convicted multiple times, is on good terms with acting mayor Gevorg Malkhasyan.

Recently Meloyan even appeared on television calling for the locals "to be grateful to the mayor for illuminating the city." He probably meant the night-time lighting of Nairyan Street in the city center which, according to our information, was done at the cost of 26.2 million drams.

""Malkhasyan wants to be re-elected while Smbatyan is a serious contender for him. The brawl is an attempt to neutralize Smbatyan," one of the locals told A1+.
