Newly elected chairman of the National Assembly Samvel Nikoyan has never sworn in as a member of the United National Party that used to work underground during the Soviet era. This is what founding member of the United National Party and later leader of the party Paruyr Hayrikyan told "A1+" today. He underlined that conspiracy lied at the core of the UNP's structure.

"The UNP was strictly involved in conspiracy. The inferior didn't know the superior, but the leaders had to know the subordinates. As leader of the UNP, I personally knew all members that had sworn in, and Nikoyan definitely wasn't on my list," Hayrikyan assured.

At the same time, he didn't exclude that Nikoyan had supported the party and had completed some assignments.

"If he tells me when he was a member of the party and what assignment he completed, I will clearly tell him whether there has been such an act or how likely it is that he has participated in that. These days there are so many people who haven't played a serious role, but say they have been linked to the UNP," Paruyr Hayrikyan mentioned.

We remind that in the newly appointed NA Chairman Samvel Nikoyan's biography it is stated that he has been a member of the underground United National Party in the USSR, but there are no dates.

Reference: In the 1970s, in the period of activity of the United National Party, there were five leaders of the party, including Paruyr Hayrikyan, Azat Arshakyan, Ashot Navasardyan, Andranik Margaryan and Hakobjan Tadevosyan. The brief history of the UNP is presented in Norayr Khanzadyan's work.
