The first court hearing in the case of jailed Armenian National Congress activists (Tigran Arakelyan, David Kiramijyan, Sargis Gevorgyan and Artak Karapetyan) is set to take place on December 8, lawyer Stepan Voskanyan told A1+.

The hearing will be presided over by Judge Gagik Poghosyan.

The opposition activists were taken into custody on August 9 after a standoff with police in a Yerevan park. They were charged with applying force against a state authority and hooliganism and arrest was chosen as a precautionary measure. However, the criminal case was later split, and the Special Investigative Service still investigates the case related to the three activists. Only Tigran Arakelyan remains in custody today: the other six activists were released on bail.

During the pre-trial investigation Stepan Voskanyan motioned to suspend the criminal prosecution against Tigran Arakelyan, but the investigator turned down the petition. The lawyer also turned to the Prosecutor General with the same request. The latter said a negative reply saying the preliminary investigation was already completed.
