Barley, nuts and starch found in coffee
The State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition (SCPEC) has publicized the results of its inspection conducted in Armenia's coffee market.
Five companies marketing packaged coffee in Armenia have been fined AMD 5 million each for including a number of additives not included in the ingredient label.
While the coffee was marketed as 100% pure, it contained barley, walnut, wheat and other elements, which were deemed unhealthy according to the SCPEC laboratory analysis.
The manufacturers that violated the law are Fero (Fero), Valetta (Premier), Byurakn (Pyramid Elit), Vans Group (Star) and Askolio (Marsel), which according to the SCPEC cheated and deluded consumers selling them coffee with side mixtures.
Laboratory tests of another twenty coffee brands revealed that the coffee was of poor quality and in some cases unfit for consumption.
The package of violations will be forwarded to the Ministry of Agriculture and law-enforcement bodies.
