Desperate widow stops hunger strike
Yerevan citizen Leyla Asatryan, who started an open-ended hunger strike on Wednesday, today stopped the strike after she realized that no one cared for her health or concerns.
"I felt that I could achieve nothing with the hunger strike since people tend to tease all those who resort to that means of struggle," said the widow of the Karabakh war veteran.
Today Mrs. Asatryan was again in front of the Yerevan Municipality with a demand to privatize a 100 sq/m land which she says belongs to her. Earlier, the Municipality turned down her request saying a playground would be built on the site. Asatryan claims that the continuation of the plot has been privatized by one of my neighbors, a well-off person, who is carrying out construction there.
The woman is offended by the municipality's statement that she did not spend the night of November 30 in front of the Mayor's Office.
"I had to walk the whole night not to get frozen. Yesterday, I went home after the municipality promised to arrange a meeting with the head of Kanaker-Zeytun community. He was to receive me at 3.30 but no one came to meet me," Leyla Asatryan said adding that she does not trust anyone but the mayor who is her only hope.
