RA Minister of Justice Hrair Tovmasyan is strictly concerned about the growth of child abuse cases in Armenia.

"These cases are dangerous for Armenia, and we need to conduct more in-depth analyses to understand where this is coming from. This crime has existed before as well. Perhaps both parents and children have tried to conceal it," the minister announced after today's government session.

According to him, the value systems are changing and may lead to negative consequences. To prevent sexual abuse against minors, the government and the National Assembly had developed a new method called castration.

"The government proposes voluntary castration," Hrair Tovmasyan informed.

In its conclusion on this legislative initiative, the government has mentioned that the child molester has to undergo a medical check-up before punishment.

"Since there is still no conclusion that it is doesn't present any danger to the public, mandatory treatment must continue," the Justice Minister mentioned.

If the child molester agrees on voluntary castration, according to Mr. Tovmasyan, he will receive injections of special hormones and will no longer be dangerous to the society, especially children.
