A new draft law on criminal procedure will soon be adopted and will include a change in Article 201 related to confidentiality of the preliminary investigation.
"To this day, the defendant has been deprived of using materials from the criminal case that would corroborate the illegitimacy of the application of imprisonment or the lack of corroboration of the petition for imprisonment," lawyer Vahe Grigoryan said during a press conference today.
According to him, investigators can choose materials that corroborate the decision on selecting imprisonment as a precautionary measure.
"On the other hand, there is no corroboration for the confidentiality of all information obtained from the beginning of the preliminary investigation until the end," Vahe Grigoryan said.
He hopes that the new Criminal Procedure Code will rule out inequality between the defendants and the plaintiffs.
According to the lawyer, based on the new conception, the component of preliminary investigation is decreasing and the main emphasis will be on the procedure.
