Spiritual leaders ‘come to terms’
Catholicos of All Armenians, His Holiness Karekin II, Patriarch of All Russia Kirill and Head of the Caucasian Muslims Board Sheikh ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade met in Yerevan as part of the CIS Inter-Religious Council.
"The meeting was held in a friendly atmosphere. The spiritual leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan came to terms, the Russian Patriarch said after the meeting.
A declaration adopted by the three spiritual leaders specifically calls for peaceful settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict on the basis of international law norms, Patriarch of All Russia said.
The spiritual leaders of the three countries also called for withdraw of snipers from the contact line to prevent further bloodshed and causalities.
"A moral atmosphere will be created, which will bring new perspectives for the conflict settlement," Kirill I said adding that they are pray for the leaders and people of the two states to establish friendship.
In the declaration, the leaders also urge the sides to swap war prisoners and corpses.
