"Bodyguard is not a sign of power or luxury"
The National Assembly of Armenia is likely to adopt the draft law on bodyguards before the end of the current session, Republican Party MP Hovhannes Sahakyan told a press conference on Friday.
However, he did not detail the mechanisms that will allow monitoring the restrictions (three bodyguards, a car, etc).
Law enforcers must quickly respond to violations and take drastic measures," said the co-author of the bill.
At the same time, Hovhannes Sahakyan refrained from answering the question as to how bodyguards should be distinguished from office clerks as they are frequently introduced by businessmen and political figures.
For his turn, Director of "Guard Eagle" Security Academy Arsen Davtyan said they cannot exercise control on restrictions and spoke against the permit to carry weapons.
"A bodyguard with weapon is a killer," he said adding that weapons are required only in extreme cases for self-defense.
"A bodyguard is not a sign of power or luxury. The primary task of a bodyguard is to protect his employer," he stressed.
