An Armenian-Georgian joint commission will be established to clean the snow on the border of the road linking Georgia with Russia. This is what RA Minister of Transport and Communication Manuk Vardanyan told journalists today.

"Since there are always problems on this sector of the road during the winter, the commission will be involved in cleaning the snow in order not to interrupt transfers from Russia to Armenia and vice versa," the minister informed.

According to the Georgian government's decision, only cars and trucks carrying up to 5 tons of products can pass through the Higher Lars passing point due to the poor condition of the roads linking Georgia with Russia.

According to Manuk Vardanyan, that is why nearly 150-200 cars have been left standing on the road from Russia to Armenia.

Vardanyan said the final solution to the issue would be the construction of a tunnel foreseen by the Georgian government's programs.

No more restrictions for age of taxi cars?

During today's government session, RA Minister of Transport and Communication Manuk Vardanyan also proposed to make a change in the order for taxi car licensing and lift the ban on taxi services using cars that are more than 10 years old.

The minister also proposed to forget about the demand for permission from the community head to obtain a license for a taxi service. According to him, that demand is made up since there are no restrictions for taxi services in terms of territory. Minister of Territorial Administration Armen Gevorgyan opposed this and claimed that it would cause a blow to the communities' budgets. The government decided to postpone the discussion on the issue.
