President of the Armenian Center of Parliamentarism Ruben Torosyan is concerned about the fact that Yerevan's new mayor Taron Margaryan has not served in the army.

"In compliance with Article 30 of the RA Law On Conscription, Yerevan citizens have a right to know the grounds for his exemption from compulsory military service," Torosyan said in a statement.

"The Council of Elders has not provided any information about this legislative requirement either. We hope that it the legal grounds will be introduced during the swearing-in ceremony of the new mayor," he said.

The inauguration ceremony is set for Friday, November 18. Taron Margaryan, who served as vice-mayor replaced Yerevan Mayor Karen Karapetyan who resigned in late October to take up another job.
