Hraparak's bank accounts put on hold
Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan's Kentron and Nork-Marash districts today put a hold on the bank accounts of "Hraparak" daily.
It came after Lawyer Arthur Grigoryan, insulted by the comments posted by readers on the newspaper's website, filed a suit against the newspaper. The lawyer demanded that the newspaper pay 18 million drams in compensation.
The judge accepted the claim without payment of state duty.
Lawsuits filed against media have been suspended or postponed in recent days as the Constitutional Court is going to hear Ombudsman's claim questioning the cconstitutionality of Article 1087.1 of the Civil Code. The controversial article refers to the compensation for public defamation and slandering of business reputation and has become a tool for legal, political and economic pressure, especially against unwanted media.
