Kocharyan’s family offended by the word ‘blood’
One of Robert Kocharyan's lawyers has ‘amiable relations' with the judge who upheld a libel lawsuit filed by Kocharyan's family against pro-opposition newspaper ‘Zhamanak,' the daily's chefi editor Arman Babajanyan told journalists on Monday.
"Now we are trying to find a document in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin which certifies that they are godfather and godson," said Babajanyan.
The editor-in-chief and his lawyer today referred to the violations made by a district court that ruled in the family's favor in June. They have found a certificate in the case material which turned out to be the judge's final verdict.
"The document was at our disposal before the onset of the trial. However, the court took a verdict based on the document," said lawyer Nikolay Baghdasaryan.
Later, in the Court of Appeals, the document as well as the recording attesting its existence disappeared.
In October 2011, the Court of Appeals upheld a lower court ruling that ordered a pro-opposition newspaper to pay the second president's family 1 million drams in libel damages.
"I have had many opprtunities to libel Robert Kocharyan as "blood-thirsty" but they wer not offended by my words. They were offended by innocent things," said Babajanyan.
The family got insulted by a newspaper article entitled "Blood from Kocahryan."
Babajanyan has already filed an appeal in the higher Court of Cassation though he admitsthat the court is unlikely to overturn the libel rulings.
