HHK approves Serzh Sargsyan's nominee for Yerevan Mayor
The Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) today named Taron Margaryan as its candidate for Yerevan Mayor. The decision was made during the HKK sitting on October 31. The sitting was chaired by Serzh Sargsyan.
Taron Magaryan has assumed the post of acting mayor after Yerevan Mayor Karen Karapetyan handed in his resignation on Friday.
"Serzh Sargsyan presented the proposal of the executive body which nominated Taron Margaryan as Yerevan's next mayor. The proposal was unanimously accepted by the party's political council, HHK Spokesman Eduard Sharmazanov told journalists after the sitting.
He added that the sitting participants did not discuss the party's relations with its coalition partners.
According to the law on Yerevan, pre-term mayoral elections are held within the time specified-but not exceeding one month-by the Council of Elders.
