Great powers’ interests clash here
Those who are waiting for speedy solutions to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict are naïve. This is what NA independent MP Victor Dallakyan told "A1+" today as he touched upon the last visit of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs to the region and the statement that they issued.
"I think the geopolitical interests that the great powers have in our region can never coincide. Thus, the status-quo will remain. This is an enduring process," Victor Dallakyan analyzed.
In their statement, the Co-Chairs had mentioned that there was a need for "notable improvement of the atmosphere of negotiations, increase confidence and reinforce the ceasefire regime in order to make further advancement for a peaceful settlement possible."
"The word "confidence" is just a detail and it can add flavor to the process of negotiations," the MP noted.
Vice-President of the Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) Razmik Zohrabyan told "A1+" that since all efforts are being made to maintain the status-quo, the Co-Chairs and the President of the Russian Federation are trying to mediate and lead the process to mutual consent once again.
"Aliyev's ten proposals have been denied. Armenia doesn't agree with them, but another attempt is being made to continue the process through Russia's mediation," Mr. Zohrabyan assured.
Razmik Zohrabyan wasn't able to give his commentary on Serzh Sargsyan's first state visit to Russia and simply advised waiting for Sargsyan's return.
Victor Dallakyan stressed that he gave a positive evaluation of Armenia's multi-vector foreign policy.
"Taking the significance of Serzh Sargsyan's state visit to Russia into account, I think the documents that were and will be signed will be of important significance for Armenia," Dallakyan assured.
