Serzh Sargsyan to meet with Putin

Serzh Sargsyan, who is on a state visit to the Russian Federation, had a meeting with Chair of the Federal Council Valentina Matvienko and Chairman of the Russian State Duma Boris Grizlov today.

In the beginning, Serzh Sargsyan congratulated Valentina Matvienko on being elected Chair of the Russian Federal Council and wished her success in that high office.

During the RA President's meetings with the heads of the two chambers of the Russian parliament, the sides mentioned that Serzh Sargsyan's state visit to the Russian Federation was rather efficient with the signing of several agreements on the development and expansion of Armenian-Russian cooperation in different spheres. According to the interlocutors, those agreements open new perspectives for further strengthening of bilateral ties. It was mentioned that the high-level close ties and cooperation in the spheres of politics, economy, the military and humanities between the two strategic partners fall in line with the spirit of the centuries-old friendship between the Armenian and Russian nations.

Serzh Sargsyan attached importance to the cooperation between the RA National Assembly and the two chambers of the Russian parliament. The head of state expressed gratitude to the inter-parliamentary committee and its co-chairs, including Nikolay Rizhkov who was attending the meeting for their fruitful efforts and great contributions to the strengthening of Armenian-Russian friendly ties.

During the meeting, in the context of the cooperation between the parliaments of both countries that is actively growing, importance was also attached to the cooperation within international organizations, particularly the parliamentary assemblies.

The interlocutors spoke with content of the development of interregional cooperation and placed importance on the expanding partnership between Armenia's provinces and the regions of the Russian Federation. The participants of the meeting mentioned that it is necessary to use that potential as much as possible for the strengthening of bilateral ties. During the meetings, importance was also attached to the role of the Armenian community in Russia for the strengthening of relations between both countries.

As part of the state visit, Serzh Sargsyan will also have meetings with Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and Mayor of Moscow Sergey Sobyanin.
