The major earthquake that hit Turkey on October 23 did not affect the Metsamor-based Armenian nuclear-power plant. The force of the epicenter, which was near Van city at the depth of 80 km, was 9-10 on Richter scale.

The strong tremors were also felt in Yerevan where the earthquake measured 3-5. The Armenian NPP is 160 km away from the earthquake-stricken area. The force of the earthquake at the nuke place was M 3, the quake could not have affected the plant's work since it is designed to resist an earthquake measuring 9-10 on the Richter scale.

It did not cause any damage to any settlement or building on the territory of the Republic of Armenia, the Armenian Ministry of Emergency Situations said in a statement.

According to Turkish sources, the Sunday earthquake in Turkey affected the Armenian NPP and the plant staff is now repairing the alleged damage.

Remind that the plant has been under repairs since September 11.
