"The memorial to lieutenant Gurgen Margaryan, who was hacked to death by Azerbaijani officer Ramil Safarov during a NATO language course in Budapest, will be replaced by a new one," Head of the ‘Gurgen Margaryan' foundation Ashot Khechoyan told A1+.

After the brutal murder, Gurgen's relatives and friends opened a fund. Besides, a plaque was placed in one of the capital's parksby a decision of the Mayor's Office.
In 2007, the foundation requested the Mayor's Office to open a museum and alley after G. Margaryan in Yerevan's Ajapnyak community.

The park was planned to occupy an area of 1680 square meters, however, the project was cancelled due to lack of funds.

At the initiative of Ashot Khechoyan, a less expensive project has been elaborated which foresees construction of a new memorial and tiling of the path. The head of the foundation says 8-10 million drams are required for the implementation of the project.

"The municipality has approved the project and we have declared a tender for architects. After the contest, we shall start the construction with the support of the Yerevan Municipality," said Ashot Khechoyan.
