Zurabyan agrees with Republican MP
Coordinator of the opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC) Levon Zurabyan does not share the opinion that the ANC has lost part of its supporters after the opposition blog decided to stop its nonstop rallies in Yerevan's Liberty Square.
'I do not know the reaction of other political forces, because I do not see any force whose opinion is worth consideration," Zurabyan told A1+.
According to the opposition representative, ANC predicts that the authorities are not going to meet its demands. However, as Zurabyan says, during the eight-day rallies the ANC had serious achievements.
"We broke the atmosphere of fear which was formed in the country after the post-election clashes of March 1, 2008. We were able to change the political atmosphere in the country," he said.
"Secondly, we have gained new supporters and finally, the government showed that it is able to control the situation only by brute force," he continued.
"This is the main defeat of the acting regime. The authorities had to ‘blockade' their own people disrupting transport communication from marzes. They applied the worst methods to keep people away from the rallies."
Commenting on Republican MP Mkrtich Minasyan's statement that the ANC demand of Serzh Sargsyan's resignation is out of discussion, Mr. Zurabyan said, "I agree with this deputy. ANC calls for the authorities' resignation and the government must not interfere in the process. They have showed their inability to establish democracy."
People will have their final say," he concluded.
