During today's opposition rally at Yerevan's Liberty Square, Vahagn Khachatryan, a former mayor of Yerevan City and a senior member of the opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC), said he had met with representatives of international structures to share his opinion about the state budget for FY 2012. Khachatryan said the meeting was initiated by international organizations.

"They all agreed that the budget was not promising," the ANC representative said adding that the kleptocratic regime does not care for its people.

Khachatryan says this year the authorities decided to increase the taxes by 100 million drams. However, the Minister of State Revenue Committee objected to this saying it is impossible to collect the money as our people, including small and medium-sized businesses, cannot afford to pay the taxes.

Khachatryan stressed that the government is trying to receive loans but international financial organizations refuse to allocate money to Armenia since the authorities spend loans for their personal interests. He underlined that country lacks a competitive market and the monopoly continues in many sectors

"We are determined to continue our struggle, the prospect of which depends on each Armenian, otherwise every citizen is doomed to poverty," he said.
