"You think European structures always speak positively about elections in Armenia, but it is not true," Deputy Head of the OSCE Office in Yerevan Carel Hofstran told A1+.

He calls on everyone to read the reports of international observers. Hofstran says some non-governmental organizations in Armenia did not welcome an OSCE report which said that the 2008 presidential elections were in line with European standards.

"You needn't focus on a definite part of the report," said Carel Hofstran.

He says that on the first day of elections international observers usually share their impressions. According to Hofstran, the OSCE Office in Yerevan observed some organizational progress during the 2008 elections.

"However, we discovered numerous violations during the vote count, which made us change our preliminary assessment," he said.
Asked how our citizens can prevent election fraud, the OSCE representative said they should participate in the polls.

Hofstran urges Armenian citizens to participate in the activities of political parties and NGOs in order to obtain political maturity.
