Azerbaijan to become part of Europe?
"Armenia can accept with reservation the provision in the final document of the Eastern Partnership Plan's Summit in Warsaw proclaiming countries of the South Caucasus as the geopolitical and civilized part of Europe," says political scientist Alexander Margarov.
During an interview with "A1+", the political scientist mentioned that this calls Azerbaijan's loyalty toward European values into question, taking into account that country's past and present in terms of civilization.
As for the principles of conflict resolutions established in the Warsaw declaration, the political scientist says even though there hasn't been any progress in the context of the NK conflict resolution, there hasn't been regression either.
"In Warsaw the leaders of European countries made it clear to the sides that they must first regulate the lives of people living in the conflict zone, and this once again goes to show the inadmissibility of war. If we add the previously made declarations that the application of military force will be devastating for any side that takes the initiative, we will receive a general picture of the position of the European political elite," Mr. Margarov said.
He also stressed that in the case of South Caucasus countries, the Euro-integration process means political and economic association.
"We're talking about the strengthening of the practice of European standards in politics, and EU integration is not in the long run for countries in the South Caucasus region for a couple of generations," Alexander Margarov mentioned.
On September 30, the "Joint Declaration of the Eastern Partnership Summit in Warsaw" was adopted in Warsaw. The declaration establishes that the Eastern Partnership is hinged on freedom, democracy, respect toward human rights, rule of law and fundamental liberties, that the 6 countries participating in the Plan, including Azerbaijan, Belarus, Armenia, Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine, have expressed commitment to stay true to these principles. The declaration underlines the growing role of the EU and the efforts for strengthening of confidence within the framework of the existing formats for resolving conflicts or in addition to them.
