ANC: "Government didn't understand"
Statement of the Armenian National Congress
"By launching round-the-clock rallies on September 30, the Armenian National Congress announced that it is ready to restart talks with the authorities alongside the round-the-clock rallies in this tense political state.
The Congress's statement was due to the awareness that the restart of dialogue in the current format can serve as an instrument for meeting the demands of the people and resolving the political conflict without turbulence, weakening the confrontation and keep political processes away from destroying the stability of the country.
On October 3, the authorities issued a statement with flamboyant admonitions that conditioned the restart of dialogue after the end of round-the-clock rallies. By placing such a demand, the authorities prove that they are against the freedom of rallies and are trying to change the essence of the conflict between a people fighting for a legitimate government and the illegitimate government with a nonsensical dispute over the legitimacy of placing tents. This also shows the government's fear of the rallies held at Freedom Square.
The government, which lacks a state and political mindset and shows that through its provinciality, didn't understand that the fact of their illegitimacy lies at the core of their conflict with the society. Instead of trying to give an adequate evaluation of this issue and engaging in dialogue with the people and the opposition that represents them and finding the directions for solving this issue, the government is only focused on keeping as many people away from the rallies as possible. With that purpose, by violating Armenian citizens' constitutional right to free mobility, they have established an unprecedented strict transportation blockade and have become equaled to the Turkish and Azeri governments.
The police officers' are using methods of psychological pressure through different types of threats.
At this moment, the Armenian National Congress doesn't see any meaning in engaging in dialogue with the authorities and from this point forth, it sees the solution to issues only through the people's mobilization and the activation of massive events.
The dialogue was initiated by the Armenian National Congress, and the interrupted dialogue may restart only by the government's initiative and upon its request. If so, the ANC will discuss and decide on whether it will pay heed to the request."
