Police call on removing tents
The RA Police issued a statement a short while ago.
"Starting from 19:00 on September 30, the Armenian Pan-National Movement has been holding a rally at Freedom Square, which should have ended at 23:00 as approved through a notice.
However, the organizers of the rally didn't end the rally at the set hour. During the rally, leader of the Armenian National Congress Levon Ter-Petrosyan announced that the Armenian National Congress was paying heed to the desire of the rally participants to continue the rally and signaled the launch of the round-the-clock rallies. Ter-Petrosyan also proposed to set the rallies for a week.
The Police inform that the rally is illegal and the participants are subject to be brought to justice by the law. Fulfilling the demand of Part 2, Article 32 of the RA law "On Freedom of Rallies", the rally participants have been informed about that. Nevertheless, taking into account that the rally is peaceful, the police are supporting the rally within their competence.
The police also inform that that support may continue only as long as the rally remains peaceful and doesn't disturb social order and violate others' constitutional rights.
Alongside that, the police record that there are disturbances of social order during the illegal rally. In particular, the participants of the rally have placed several tents at the area of a cultural monument, which is the venue for the rally. The police call on participants to remove the tents.
In the case of disproportionate disturbance of social order and the violation of others' constitutional rights, the police will implement powers reserved by the law, including the dispersion of the rally."
