"In his speech on September 27, the German ambassador to Armenia reiterated the words of the Armenian leadership," Petros Makeyan, President of the "Democratic Motherland" Party and member of the opposition Armenian National Congress (HAK) said on Wednesday.

"The German ambassador simply expressed his opinion," Makeyan said when assessing Hans-Jochen Schmidt's words addressed to Armenia's first President Levon Ter-Petrosyan.

During yesterday's discussion at the Civilitas Foundation in Yerevan, Ambassador Hans-Jochen Schmidt blamed Levon Ter-Petrosyan for the country's grave situation, saying the terms "oligopoly" and "oligarchy" came into circulation during Ter-Petrosyan's administration.

Makeyan says the international community has definite expectations from Serzh Sargsyan in view of the Karabakh conflict and Armenia-Turkey reconciliation, that is why they support Sargsyan.

"If they [Armenian authorities] fail to justify the expectations of foreign countries, they will be forced to leave their offices the following day," said the HAK member.

Snap elections to follow ordinary elections?

"HAK intends to rally as many people as will be enough to make the authorities resign offices," Petros Makeyan said during a meeting with Republican MP Mkrtich MInasyan.

"The Congress hopes to rally so many people that the thought of shooting into the crowd wouldn't cross the authorities' mind. We shall make the authorities understand that the use of violence is pointless," he said.

Asked why the HAK is rallying the critical mass, Makeyan said, "It is a matter of time. A child is born in nine months."

"But the parliamentary elections will be held in less than nine months, Mr. Makeyan," Minasyan hurried to correct the opposition representative.
