"Unfair elections have an impact on the reputation of candidate that won," said former U.S. Ambassador to Armenia John Evans during a discussion at Civilitas Foundation.

"As far as I know, only the first elections in Armenia were fair," mentioned the Ambassador.

Evans wasn't in Armenia when the events of 1 March 2008 took place, but he mentioned that those events did have an impact on Armenia's reputation.

"The events of March 1 were a step back," said Ambassador Evans.

The other participant of the discussion, German Ambassador to Armenia Hans Jokhen-Schmidt almost always attends ANC leader Levon Ter-Petrosyan's rallies and listens to his views which, according to him, are mainly about the falsified elections.

The Ambassador avoided assessing the electoral processes in Armenia and tried to understand how the oligarchy emerged in the country.

"Ter-Petrosyan must accept that the foundations for the terms "oligopoly" and "oligarchy" were laid in Armenia thanks to his administration," said Germany's Ambassador to Armenia.
