Gennady Martirosyan taken to hospital after bout
The Armenian boxer Gennady Martirosyan was taken to hospital immediately after the bout against WBO middleweight champion Dmitry Pirog.
Pirog scored a tenth round TKO over WBO #1 rated contender Gennady Martirosyan on September 25 night at the Olimp Sports Palace in Krasnodar, Russia. During the bout, Pirog delivered a merciless series of unanswered punched at the end of round ten and the Martirosyan corner pulled their man out between rounds.
Martirosyan is suspected to have a cerebral hematoma in the head but the diagnosis has not been confirmed.
"Doctors say Gennady is already recovering," Martirosyan's manager Alexander Yugapov told Russian media.
Martirosyan will likely spend another two days in hospital.
