Funds for poet’s treatment raised
Poet Hovhannes Grigoryan has been diagnosed with lung cancer and needs 50,000 dollars for a difficult operation to save his life.
A fundraiser has been announced, and young writers of the Writers' Union of Armenia have already organized an action that was disseminated on social networks. The required amount has almost been collected.
During today's press conference, President of the Writers' Union of Armenia Levon Ananyan, writer Gurgen Khanjyan and literary critic Hasmik Khechikyan announced on behalf of the youth that the action took a month and raised funds from officials and average citizens.
Among large donators was NA Chairman Hovik Abrahamyan who donated his one-month salary. As Levon Ananyan mentioned, Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan and President of the World Armenian Congress Ara Abrahamyan have also made their donations. There is only 10,000 dollars left, and Serzh Sargsyan has pledged to donate.
"This action goes to show that the people love and acknowledge the writer," said Grigor Khanjyan.
Even though there are enough funds, proceeds from today's benevolent concert at Aram Khachatryan Concert Hall will also go to the poet's further treatment. The concert will feature performances by Ruben Hakhverdyan, David Amalyan, Eduard Chorikyan, Vakhtang Harutyunyan, Sargis Manukyan from Empyray and other musicians.
