No Armenians affected in Syrian crackdown
Unlike the U.S. Department of State, the Armenian Foreign Ministry did not urge its citizens to leave Syria.
Talking to A1+, Ministry Spokesman Tigram Balayan said Armenians were not affected during the government's violent crackdown on peaceful demonstrators.
Over 100 000 Armenians live in Syria today, let alone 50,000 Catholic Armenians and Kurdish-speaking Armenians.
Earlier today, The United States urged its citizens to leave Syria immediately, citing security concerns.
"The U.S. Department of State urges U.S. citizens in Syria to depart immediately while commercial transportation is available," the State Department said in a warning notice, adding that future plans by U.S. citizens to travel to Syria should be deferred.
Mass riots broke out in Syria in mid-March with demonstrators calling for President Bashar al-Assad's resignation.
