"All they need is permission"
Ashot Sargsyan, who is the lawyer for the successors of former NA chairman and one of the victims of October 27, Karen Demirchyan, says the lawyers appealing to the court on behalf of the terrorists and expecting the court to change their death sentencings with a 20-year imprisonment "are playing with fire".
"The amendments made in the Criminal Code allow that, but not for those sentenced for the "October 27" case. They have already been sentenced to life in prison. According to the amendment, the 15-year imprisonment has been replaced with life in prison or 20 years.
The terrorists, Nairi and Karen Hunanyan who have already appealed to the court and been denied, as well as Edik Grigoryan, who is preparing to appeal to the court, have already been sentenced to life in prison. They have no other legal ground to appeal to the court with that demand and change the criminal act that is in effect," Ashot Sargsyan told "A1+".
Sargsyan doesn't share the view that Edik Grigoryan was passive during the terrorist act. "The court didn't clarify Edik Grigoryan's participation. All participants of the trials were convinced that Grigoryan oversaw the terrorist act on October 27."
The court also didn't find out who was behind the terrorists.
Ashot Sargsyan says there is something in common between "October 27" and "March 1" in the sense that neither one has been revealed. "There are very professional investigators who can reveal any crime in Armenia on time. All they need is permission."
As far as Serzh Sargsyan's instruction to reveal the 10 murders of March 1 is concerned, Ashot Sargsyan said even though he gave the instruction, the question is whether he will follow up on that or not.
In his speech during a trial for the "October 27" case, Ashot Sargsyan had demanded a death penalty for the terrorists, knowing very well that that wouldn't happen in Armenia since the country had made a commitment to the Council of Europe to eliminate the death penalty.
"Yes, I had demanded that. There was a problem with revealing the forces behind the terrorists, and that problem exists today as well," said Mr. Sargsyan.
