The National Assembly of Armenia today continued its four-day sitting with the ratification of military contracts signed between Armenian and Russian Presidents in Moscow on December 10, 2010.

The government today presented a series of draft laws and legislative changes.

Deputy Chief of the Armenian Police Arthur Osikyan introduced a package of eight legislative amendments, with the first one referring to the RA Law on Passport.

"We plan to introduce the system of biometric passports in Armenia which is directly linked to Armenia-EU Neighborhood Action Plan," Osikyan said in his addressing speech.

Biometric data include fingerprinting, iris scanning and digital photos.

Osikyan says the introduction of biometric passports will exclude fake passports and prevent the free movement of terrorists and criminals. At the same time, it will facilitate access to European countries.

While the police official was presenting the draft, some deputies started to talk. NA Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan invited them out to continue their conversation in the corridor.
