Republican candidate wins in Alaverdi mayoral elections
Republican Artavazd Varosyan defeated his opponent Kamo Babayan from the Communist Party in the Sunday mayoral elections.
Varosyan, who earlier served as deputy mayor of Alaverdi city, scored the highest votes of 3488, while Babayan got 386 votes, Ankyun+3 TV reports. Kamo Babayan is the director of Karap-Tras, a local transport company.
The mayor's post was vacant after former mayor Arthur Nalbandyan was appointed governor of Lori marz (province).
The voter turnout was 24.4 %, with 4028 out of 16.520 eligible voters participating in the polls.
