HAK starts series of rallies
Speaking at the September 9 rally of the opposition Armenian National Congress (HAK) in the Armenian capital, HAK Coordinator Levon Zurabyan spoke about the latest revelations by the whistleblower WikiLeaks site.
"The recently disclosed US embassy cables unveil interesting facts of the 2008 and 2010 elections. The 2008 presidential elections turn out to be rigged, with Ter-Petrosyan [Armenia's first President] polling majority of the votes," he said.
"According to WikiLeaks, French President Nikolay Sarkozi did not intend to congratulate Serzh Sargsyan on the victory. But the then Armenian Ambassador to France Edward Nalbandian released a faked address of the French President, knowing that France would avoid a diplomatic scandal and would not give a rebuttal."
"This evidences that the acting authorities are real bandits," said Zurabyan.
WikiLeaks cables show that the HAK won both the presidential and mayoral elections in Yerevan.
The HAK official says the authorities "aborted the dialogue" between the government and opposition with the arrest of HAK activist Tigran Arakelyan.
"The authorities are keeping Tigran Arakelyan under arrest for the purpose of freezing the dialogue and avoiding a final answer to the HAK's demand for snap elections," said Zurabyan.
The HAK Coordinator concluded his speech saying that the HAK is starting a series of rallies that will finally force the regime to admit people's triumph.
