Roadblocks ahead of HAK’s rally
The roads to the capital from marzes (provinces) are controlled by police officers on Friday ahead of another rally of the opposition Armenian National Congress (HAK) due to take place at Yerevan's Liberty Square at 7:00 p.m.
There have been reports today that inter-city public transportation and private taxies have not been operating since early morning, Arman Musinyan, a spokesman for Armenia's first President Levon Ter-Petrosyan, told A1+.
There is an apparent disruption in transport communication between the capital and remote marzes, including Tavush and Armavir. A similar picture can be observed in the nearby towns of Etchmiadzin.
Musinyan says police patrols are deployed on Gavar-Yerevan route where they stop public transport and send passengers back to their homes.
Talking to A1+, Arman Musinyan said that authorities are thus trying to keep many Armenians from joining anti-government demonstrators in the capital.
"Yesterday police officers called on our regional structures and tried to ‘to talk' our regional activists out of attending the rally. Many were inviting to police stations for ‘explanatory work,' said Musinyan.
