Stpenakert airport operation delayed
The newly-built airport in Stepanakert will handle international flights in mid-October, Dmitri Adbashyan, Head of the NKR Civil Aviation Service told A1+.
Currently constructors are broadening and strengthening the runway to receive large airplanes, like IL-70, CRJ-200 and Airbus.
The airport was planned to open in September 2011, however the deadline was postponed due to unfavourable weather conditions and continuing rains.
"The rains have subsided and we have sped up the works. Builders pledged to complete the construction at the end of September. I think that in mid-October we shall be able to get the first international flights," said Adbashyan.
The regulation of signal equipment installed on the strip is realized together with a Moscow institute. Some navigation devices are used for transit flights in order to obtain information about the direction and distance of planes flying through Armenia and Azerbaijan.
