“Armenia will impose peace on Azerbaijan”
"Azerbaijan took a step back in Kazan after it refused to come to terms and created new hindrances for future agreement," Serzh Sargsyan announced today.
In his speech at the meeting of heads of the central apparatus of the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Armenia's diplomatic representations abroad, Sargsyan mentioned that the mediating countries and the international community were expecting an agreement on at least the Basic Principles for the conflict resolution soon.
"We reached an important landmark in the summer," Serzh Sargsyan said.
According to him, the meeting in Kazan was a unique touchstone for assessing the sides' sincerity and commitment to resolve the conflict through peaceful negotiations and as soon as possible. Which is the next step? What are the expectations?
"Regardless of Azerbaijan's destructive approach, Armenia, as before, will continue its efforts to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict through peace and based on the principles of international law and those stated in the UN Charter. Nevertheless, nobody should call the clarity and commitment of Armenia's position into question. There is no red line that we can never cross. We have said that publicly during meetings with our partners, it is reflected in my pre-electoral platform and I have declared it several times," Serzh Sargsyan said in response to a question.
Sargsyan also noted that Azerbaijan's "belligerent" approach is inacceptable and that Armenia will take adequate steps. "Be sure that in case of military ventures, Armenia will not think twice to impose peace on the opponent."
Sargsyan is certain that the international community will recognize the NKR's independence, just like it recognized South Sudan's independence. "That is inevitable in Artsakh's case as well, even though I still can't talk about the mitigation of Azerbaijan's position on the negotiations over the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict resolution," Sargsyan said.
