Public and competing
Armenia's Public Television exceeds the foreseen amount of advertisements.
This is what President of "Asbarez" Journalists Club in Gyumri Levon Barseghyan said today as he presented the results of a monitoring of "How the amount of advertisements and distribution in programs broadcast on "H1" Armenian Public Television correspond to RA legislation".
The results of the monitoring show that the amount of advertisements made up 8.3% of airtime in March and 9.1% of airtime in April, but Article 26 of the RA law "On Television and Radio" prescribes that advertisements should only make up 7% of total airtime.
"The executive directors of Armenia's Public Television should follow to make sure the amount of advertisements doesn't exceed," said expert Mesrop Harutyunyan.
Monitoring and video recording took place in Gyumri in March and April. The results showed that "H1" Public Television is broadcast 24 hours a day only in Yerevan and Ararat province.
The monitoring results showed a violation of another advertisement standard, that is, advertisements of products should interrupt programs less than every 20 minutes.
The researchers paid attention to advertisements that are possibly hidden in programs, films and news.
In the first thirteen days of March, 80 advertisements were seen, and the advertisements for Viva Cell, Senator and Zovk juice companies were in the top three.
"Whereas public television is even prohibited from advertising products in other countries, in Armenia "H1" competes with other television stations," says President of "Asbarez" Club Council Levon Barseghyan.
