To be demolished despite contracts
Traders of Arabkir district today held a protest in front of their stands.
Yerevan Municipality yesterday instructed the owners and tenants of 18 counters to destroy their stands placed on the sidewalks of the Hrachya Kochar-Papazyan intersection.
"If they don't destroy them, the municipality will. However, the traders will have to compensate for those sums," as instructed.
Trader Anna Kirakosyan doesn't understand the logic behind that and says she can still trade for many months according to her contract.
Trader Ruzanna Ivanyan recalled the example of European countries where street trade is organized in central Paris.
The traders mentioned that they only managed to earn a day's living and showed the contracts stating that they could occupy the territories from 2012 to 2014.
NA "Heritage" faction MP Armen Martirosyan assures that this is a violation of the law.
"Some traders own their stands, and the law prescribes that a person's property can only be taken when there is a court ruling or a government resolution or when the territory is recognized as a public interest, but properties given for rent don't have a corresponding document," the NA MP clarified.
The gathered and MP Armen Martirosyan tried to meet with the head of Arabkir district. Although the working day was not over, head of the district Eduard Musheghyan was not in his office. The letter with signatures of protesting traders was handed over to the district head's secretary, and a similar letter was handed over to Yerevan Municipality.
