The territorial integrity of states is a sacred issue, but the principle of nations' self-determination is also very important," announced today President of Poland Bronislaw Komorowski during an official visit to Baku, according to Russian presses.

Touching upon the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict during a press conference following the meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Komorowski hoped for a peaceful resolution of the conflict.

"We have a difficult experience. We know that wherever there are conflicts, those principles (territorial integrity and nations' self-determination-ed.) are present. The most dangerous thing is that somebody, depending on the geographical location and political conditions, has approached that issue from different angles."

President Komorowski told about Poland's "bitter experience", recalling that in the not too distant past, the modern-day Belarus, Ukraine and a part of Lithuania's territories broke away from Rech Pospolita (the name of Poland before the 19th century-ed.).

"Historically speaking, we had territories that ethnic and religious minorities lived in. We had rather difficult relations with stronger neighbors. In many cases, the processes hurt our relations with Germany, Russia and Ukraine," said Komorowski, adding that despite all that, his generation has managed to eliminate hatred and intolerance in the society.

The Polish President also placed importance on the role of the OSCE Minsk Group in the Artsakh issue. He also underlined that the people living in Nagorno-Karabakh must have the decisive voice for the conflict resolution. "The people who live in that region and who have suffered from this conflict must say how they want to progress. They must actively participate in the process of resolution," said the President of Poland.

Let us mention that Bronislaw Komorowski tomorrow will pay an official visit to Yerevan within the framework of the regional visit.
