547 released under general amnesty

About 547 have been released in Armenia under a general amnesty declared by the country's authorities on May 27, 2011. The sentences of 309 prisoners have been shortened, reports the press service of the MoJ Penitentiary Department.

Below is the list of amnestied prisoners per penitentiary institutions:

Nubarashen - 65 released, 4 sentences shortened
Erebuni - 116 released, 67 sentences shortened
Vardashen - 34 released, 22 sentences shortened
Hospital for Convicts - 30 released, 10 sentences shortened
Artik - 48 released, 40 sentences shortened
Vanadzor - 18 released, 14 sentences shortened
Sevan - 71 released, 44 sentences shortened
Hrazdan - 32 released, 7 sentences shortened
Abovyan - 7 released, 16 sentences shortened
Goris - 16 released, 9 sentences shortened
Kosh - 110 released, 76 sentences shortened

The release of prisoners continues.

With a vote 91 to 0, the National Assembly approved in May President Serzh Sargsyan's proposal to announce an amnesty on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Armenia's independence.
