Armenian-American consultations held

The delegation led by RA First Deputy Minister of Defense David Tonoyan was in Washington on July 18-21 to participate in the Armenian-American defense consultations.

The consultations started with David Tonoyan's meeting with RA Ambassador to the United States Tatul Margaryan, military attaché, colonel Mesrop Nazaryan and Under-Secretary of Defense on Policy Michel Flurno. Issues related to military partnership and regional security were discussed.

The meeting was followed by Armenian-American defense consultations presided by RA First Deputy Minister of Defense David Tonoyan , International Security Under-Secretary of Defense Alexander Vershbou and Deputy Assistant on Russia, Ukraine and Eurasia Celeste Volander. A number of issues related to bilateral military partnership were discussed.

During the consultations, the sides indicated new directions of further cooperation for necessary capacity building based on the results of the revision of the defense strategy.

The discussions with the American side continued at the U.S. Department of State where David Tonoyan met with the U.S. Secretary of State's newly appointed Deputy Assistant for Europe and Eurasia Eric Rubin, Military-Political Affairs Deputy Curt Amend and Deputy Assistant for Threat Reduction and Export Control Ann Ganzer. Issues of bilateral interest were discussed, particularly the control of exporting products of military significance, the participation of the RA Armed Forces in peace-keeping operations, military education and mine-clearing.

During the visit to the United States, the delegation led by the RA First Deputy Minister of Defense also visited the national monument in Arlington and laid a wreath at the memorial to the "Unknown Soldier".
