Special flowers to be installed for florists
Starting August 1, florists in Yerevan will have to sell flowers in special pavilions. The municipality's decision has triggered discontent among hopeless florists who are unable to rent a pavilion at a fixed price.
"I cannot pay 250 000 drams for a pavilion. Where should I get the money? They have brought us to a dead end. The city authorities have left us with no other option," said florist Hermine Abrahamyan.
Second-degree invalid Alvard Grigoryan added that they can hardly afford their bare necessities and cannot collect the money in ten days.
"We agree that the new pavilions will beautify our city but we do not have the required sum," she said.
Grigoryan says municipality representatives have given them an address of a carpenter who can make pavilions for them.
"They gave us some papers with the address of a certain Ruben who agreed to make pavilions at 700 dollars each," she said.
Later, florists found out that they could order pavilions at lower prices.
Municipality representatives gave me the phone number of a Gokor who turned out to be lumbered with work. We found another person who agreed to make a pavilion for 195.000 drams. My colleague paid even less - 150 000 drams," said Vahan Harutyunyan, a florist at "GUM" market.
In reply to A1+'s inquiry, the municipality said, «The Yerevan City Hall has not given florists any address or contact numbers for ordering pavilions. Neither has the City Hall fixed prices for pavilions. The decision to install pavilions aims to control open-air trade and beautify the Armenian capital.»
