Baku replies to Medvedev’s proposals
Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov, who is in Moscow on an official visit, conveyed official Baku's reply to Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's proposal on Karabakh.
During a press conference with his Russian counterpart Mammadyarov said Azerbaijan cannot shoulder full responsibility in the talks.
"We have to wait for Armenia's reply to the same proposals, though we also recorded progress in the talks. We are gradually approaching the line when all will understand that the current situation is disadvantageous for all sides, including our neighbours," he said.
Mammadyarov underlined that the most important for them is to maintain stability in the region.
The Azerbaijani official stressed that the Kazan-hosted trilateral presidential meeting was a step forward as it focused on concrete issues.
"We think that we must continue talks on issues we have not been able to coordinate yet. It is high time we started discussion over a legal document -a peace treaty," said the Azerbaijani FM adding that peace treaty will signal to the final stage of negotiations.
In his turn, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Russia will thoroughly study Azerbaijan's reply.
In early July, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov arrived in the region to convey a message and proposals of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev to Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders.
